Definition and Basic Process
CNC Turning is a subtractive manufacturing process where a cutting tool, typically non-rotating, moves in a linear fashion while the workpiece rotates. This is primarily used to create cylindrical, conical, or spherical parts.
How CNC Turning Works
A bar of material is securely clamped in a chuck and rotated at high speed. A computer-controlled tool path moves the cutting tool across the rotating material, shearing away excess stock to create the desired shape with extreme precision.
Types of CNC Turning Machines
